Meloxicam

Meloxicam (Лем, Melox) refers to the group of oxicams, possesses a prominent anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. The main specific feature of Meloxicam that makes it different form any other NSAIDs is its less ulcerogenic action and better tolerance by patients. 

Pharmacokinetics. Taken orally, it is well-obsorbed, penetrates into the synovial fluid. T1|2 – 20 h.

Indications: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, arthrosis, Bechterew’s disease.

It is prescribed for the oral and rectal use. 
  • It is taken orally in the form of tablets during the meal (without chewing, drinking it with water). Normal daily dose – 0,0075 g (7,5mg). If the effect is insufficient, the dose is increases up to 0,015 g (15 mg) (maximal daily dose).
  • Rectally - 1 suppository (0,015 g) a day.
Adverse reactions: dyspepsia, dizziness, hearing impairment, sleepiness, edema, AP rise, leucopenia, allergic reactions.
Individual and cross hypersensitivity with acetylsalicylic acid and other NSAIDs are possible.   
With caution: for patients with BA, inclination to allergic reactions, angioneurotic edema. It shouldn’t be used for patients with gastric or duodenal ulcer (especially at the acute stage). It mustn’t be prescribed at renal and hepatic diseases, pregnancy and lactation, age under 15.

Interactions. It intensifies the effects of indirect anticoagulants, thrombolytic agents, heparin, Ticlopidine; weakens the action of antihypertensive drugs. 
Dosage forms: 0,0075 g and 0,015 g tab.; 0,015 g rectal suppositories.
